These steps protect your data, maximize your payout, and speed up the transaction. None take more than 10 minutes.
Back up your data
Time Machine to an external drive, or iCloud backup. Do this before anything else — once you hand over the Mac, getting data back is your problem, not ours (or anyone else's).
Sign out of iCloud
System Settings → [Your Name] → Sign Out. This removes Activation Lock. A MacBook Air with Activation Lock on it is worth significantly less because the buyer can't use it without your Apple ID. This step is critical.
Erase and reinstall macOS
Shut down → hold Power until "Loading startup options" → Erase Mac → Reinstall macOS. Takes about 30–60 minutes. The Mac arrives at our shop ready for a new owner, which means we don't have to charge you a wipe fee.
Gather accessories
Original power adapter, MagSafe cable, box if you have it. Each adds a small amount to your payout — we note what ships with the machine. Missing the charger is fine, just disclose it.

How do I find out which MacBook Air I have?
Click the Apple menu (top-left corner) → About This Mac. You'll see the model name and year. For chip generation: "Apple M1" = 2020 Air, "Apple M2" = 2022 or 2023 Air, "Apple M3" = 2024 Air. The 15-inch MacBook Air launched in 2023 (M2) and 2024 (M3). If you see "Intel" as the chip, you have a 2020 or earlier model.
Does a cracked screen lower the trade-in value?
Yes — a cracked or shattered display reduces the trade-in value by $120–$250 depending on model, because we have to replace the panel. We still buy cracked-screen MacBook Airs, and we'll give you a real quote. Don't write off selling a cracked machine — it's worth more than you think, because the logic board and everything else is still fine.
What if my MacBook Air has water damage?
We buy water-damaged Macs too. Value depends on whether it powers on and what functions work. An Air that boots and runs normally despite past water exposure is worth close to normal. One that only partially boots or has a dead keyboard/trackpad is worth less, but still not zero. Get a quote — you might be surprised.
Do I need to include the original box?
No. The original box and accessories add a modest amount to your payout ($20–$60 depending on model) but they're not required. The machine is what matters.
Is my offer guaranteed?
