Before you ship: 4 things to do

These protect your data and maximize your payout. Takes about 15–20 minutes total.

1

Back up your data

Time Machine or iCloud. Once the machine leaves your hands it's wiped. Don't skip this.

2

Sign out of iCloud — this removes Activation Lock

System Settings → [Your Name] → Sign Out. A MacBook Pro with Activation Lock on it can't be used by anyone else and is worth substantially less. This is the most important step.

3

Erase and reinstall macOS

Shut down → hold Power → Erase Mac → Reinstall macOS. About 30–60 minutes. Skipping this costs you a wipe fee on our end, which we deduct from your payout.

4

Note your exact spec

About This Mac → chip, RAM, storage. Tell us when you get the quote. Higher configs pay more — don't leave money on the table by guessing.

Frequently asked questions

What MacBook Pro models are worth the most on trade-in?

Apple Silicon Pro and Max configurations hold value best. A MacBook Pro 14" M2 Pro in good condition is worth $940–$1,080 on trade-in right now. The 16-inch models consistently fetch higher values than 13/14-inch due to their larger display and higher-spec configs. M1 Max and M2 Max machines in good condition often exceed $1,200. Intel MacBook Pros from 2019 and earlier have dropped significantly — expect $200–$450 depending on spec.

Does my MacBook Pro's RAM or storage configuration affect trade-in value?

Yes, meaningfully. A MacBook Pro 14" M2 Pro with 32 GB RAM is worth roughly $100–$150 more than the base 16 GB config. 1 TB storage vs 512 GB adds another $60–$100. Max chip configurations (M1 Max, M2 Max, M3 Max) command $200–$400 premiums over base Pro configs. Always mention your exact config when getting a quote.

How much does a cracked screen affect my MacBook Pro trade-in value?

A cracked display on a MacBook Pro 14" typically reduces value by $200–$350 depending on model, since ProMotion OLED/mini-LED panels are more expensive to replace. We still buy cracked-screen MacBook Pros — the logic board, RAM, and storage are all fine. If you have a MacBook Pro 16" with a cracked screen, get a quote before assuming it's worthless. It's often still $400–$700+.

Is my 2016 or 2017 MacBook Pro worth selling?

It depends on the spec. A 2017 MacBook Pro 15" with 16 GB RAM is worth $180–$280. The keyboard issues on 2016–2019 models are well known and reduce buyer confidence, which suppresses trade-in values. That said, we still buy them. The fastest way to know: get a quote at /trade-in — takes 30 seconds.

Can I trade in a MacBook Pro toward buying a Mac from you?

Yes — this is one of the most popular ways people use our trade-in. You hand over (or ship) your old MacBook Pro, we apply the trade-in credit to your next purchase, and you pay the difference. If you're going from a MacBook Pro 14" M2 Pro to a MacBook Pro 16" M3 Pro, the trade-in gap might be $300–$600 depending on condition and what we have in stock. Call us or use the trade-in tool online.

Do you buy MacBook Pro M1 Max and M2 Max models?

Yes, and they pay well. M1 Max 16" MacBook Pros in good condition are worth $1,100–$1,400 on trade-in. M2 Max configs can exceed $1,500. These are desirable machines with strong resale, so we offer strong quotes on them. Describe your exact config (chip, RAM, storage) when getting a quote.

What is the difference between trade-in and selling outright?

Trade-in: your MacBook Pro becomes store credit toward another purchase. You typically get slightly more value this way because we price the credit aggressively to earn the next sale. Outright sale: we pay you cash (Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, bank transfer) and the transaction is done. Either way, the inspection process and payout timeline are the same — the only difference is the payment form.

Do you buy business MacBook Pros in bulk?

Yes. If your company is refreshing a fleet of 5, 10, or 20+ MacBook Pros, contact us directly at (740) 223-5530. Fleet buybacks get a dedicated quote process and we can coordinate pickup or consolidated shipping. Volume sellers often get better per-unit rates because the inspection and logistics overhead is lower.
